About
A firm that shows its arithmetic
Three practice areas, five fee earners, and one habit: separate what we charge from what we pay out on your behalf, and publish the scales that set the second number.
The practice
Chancery is a small firm doing three things: moving houses, winding up estates, and untangling employment. We took the view early on that the part clients hate is not the bill, it is being unable to check the bill.
What we publish
Every fee earner appears on the people page with a grade and an hourly rate. The fee estimator applies the real statutory scales rather than a smoothed average. The insights are written to explain the lines a client did not expect, including the ones that no longer exist.
Regulatory information
A real firm carries an SRA registration number, professional indemnity cover, a complaints procedure and a route to the Legal Ombudsman. Every one of those on this site is invented, because Chancery is a demonstration of a website template and not a practice.
Complaints
If a real firm cannot resolve a complaint, a client may take it to the Legal Ombudsman, normally within six months of the firm’s final response. A template cannot handle a complaint, so this section exists to show where the text belongs.
